LIONS CLUBS CAMP KIRK FOUNDATION

‘THE CHILDREN OF CAMP KIRK’

Lions Clubs Camp Kirk Foundation opened for campers in 1993 with 32 campers attending.  In 2016 we were at full capacity of 144 campers and a waiting list.   We have come a long way.

The cost involved in sending a child to Camp Kirk for two weeks is over $3,000.00, of which the parents are asked to pay 50%.

In 1994-95, when Lioness Mary Peters was District A-16 Lioness President she requested, and was encouraged by the LCCKF Board to start a new fund raiser as her District Project.    She initiated “The Children of Camp Kirk” fund, raising a total of $47,000 in her year as President.

These funds were to provide financial assistance to parents whose children qualified to attend our camp, however, they could not afford to send them.  At that time, Henri Audet (pronounced “Onree”) interviewed every applicant and determined the children that would benefit from our fund, as well as funds raised by the Friends of the Learning Disabled.  The past two years, the camp has been under the direction of Erica Coutts, and she is responsible for interviews now.

Since 1995, the fund has paid an average of $7-8,000 annually, with over $110,000 donated to deserving children since its inception.

The fund was gradually depleting, as annual donations from our Lions/Lioness Clubs did not maintain the balance Lioness Mary had raised.

In 2005-06 District Lioness President Elaine Umphrey chose to give the fund a boost by having it as her President’s project, as well Lioness Elaine raised $25,000.

Further, in 2014-2015 both District Governor Eleanor and District Lioness President Karen Jackson chose

“The Children of Camp Kirk” as their joint District Project and raised $38,000.

We do receive much appreciated annual donations from several clubs, however they are barely sufficient to maintain the ongoing need to assist “The Children”.

We appreciate any contributions for “The Children of Camp Kirk”.   Please make cheques payable to LCCKF, and on the memo line state “the Children of Camp Kirk”.

All donations are gratefully appreciated and tax receipts are issued.
